Our Brain_ It's parts and functions

A well-known ( trite) line used for both morning whatsapp forwards and inspirational speeches by great leaders.   When you are sitting alone in the corner of the room and brooding about a tought decision to make ,in the settings of a depressing and failure-striken day  , your friend comes by and  puts a hand on your shoulder and says " Don't worry, Just follow your heart and you will do fine" All those encouraging words the arts teachers said, " Listen to the beat, follow your heart and feel the rythm, You will rock the stage tonight!"  What if I said they were all wrong? Wait, wait! I don't mean you are not a good dancer or are not well - versed at making decisions, I meant , Is it scietifically correct to say "Follow your heart?"  Just think about it, Heart is  just a involuntary ( not in our control)  muscle, pumps blood in and out, relaxes in the vast red ocean maintaining the oxygen count in our body. It is important , but it is not t...

Total Internal Reflection

Have you ever experienced this? When you are out walking on the footpath, and  you feel your hair is not proper but don't have a mirror, You look onto the glass windows of a car parked nearby and see yourself ." Oh this could work as a mirror too" and start correcting your messy hair, when suddenly the person inside the car rolls down the window and smiles. That embarrasing laugh you gave back ?  Or when you walk across shops or cafes with glass panes and at times you see yourself in them?  or the mesmerizing feeling when you see a diamond sparkle effortlessly?  In the first 2 examples, We know that these windows and glass panes are transparent, which is they should refract the light and let it pass through them, But how are they reflecting them back??  Due to the phenomena called TOTAL INTERNAL REFLECTION!  To understand this concept , Let's take an example of a glass slab, the light getting refracted through it's second surface, Like this 👇 Now, If...

Apparent and Actual Depth__ Further more on Refraction of Light

27th March 2013 , Wednesday The Sun was bright and the day was blithesome. My Friends and I were splashing coloured water and throwing rainbow coloured powder everywhere , celebrating the radiant festival of Holi. After drowning eachother and pranking most of the adults by throwing coloured powders at them unexpectedly. We decided to spend the rest of the day in the pool, The bright sky, hot weather and fun in the air, made it perfect. We grabbed our towels and excitedly ran towards the pool, all the while getthing chided by the housekeeping aunty for making the once pristine corridor, into a form of abstract art drawn using our feet and the unsettled powder falling of our hair. As soon as we reached everyone jumped into the pool, doing cannonballs and splashing water all over. I quietly went and sat on the edge of the pool, making patterns in the water using my legs for I didn't know how to swim. My friend called out " What are you doing? Come in!" "I don't kno...

More about Refraction of Light through a Rectangular Glass_ Proofs of some basic properties and Factors affecting Refraction

Go straight, Turn Left, Slight Right and straight again. Finally, you have reached! Welcome! Welcome to the World of Light once again!  I do hope you really enjoyed your previous visit into our mindboggling world. Today we are going to dive deeper in to our renowned town of refraction which is one of the main places scientists choose for adventure sports in our World. Strap in and get ready for the roller coaster ride as we go through the peculiar effects of a glass slab and different mediums on light. (If you haven't read the previous blog about the Basics of Refraction of Light and Snell's Law, click on this link !  The Refractive Indices of Light and its relation with the Snell's Law  . I would suggest you to read that , before you move ahead in this blog as we will be referring to few concepts from it.)   In this blog we will understand why:- Q) The   Angle of Incidence always equal to the Angle of Emergence  in a glass slab? Q) The Incident...
